How to Choose the Perfect Christening Attire for Your Baby

January 30, 2017 by Kala Ross

There are a few monumental moments in a baby’s life, and one of those is the child’s christening. It is only natural that you want to make sure that your baby’s attire is appropriate and elegant. There are many options out there, especially since christening is becoming increasingly popular. Still, you might need a little help choosing the perfect outfit.

Choosing Healthy Material

Most parents get lost in planning their child’s attire, but you should consider your child’s health, first.

This might come as a shock to some parents, but it is important to make sure that your baby’s garments are toxin-free. Studies found that some major baby clothes distributors sell garments that are full of chemicals like nonylphenol. This chemical has been linked to hormonal disruptions, which no parent wants to impose on a child. Stick to clothes made from natural fabrics rather than synthetic.

Comfortable Clothes

There are a few things to consider in order to make sure that your baby’s christening attire is comfortable. This is important because the ceremony will be full of friends, and you may be there for awhile. Your baby may start acting up if he or she is uncomfortable.

The first thing to consider is the neck area. You do not want too much fabric there, because your child needs to breath. The second area that you want to pay attention to is the stomach area. Your baby may wiggle around during the ceremony and will not be happy if the clothes are too tight, so make sure that there is enough wiggle room in the midsection.

The third thing that you want to keep in mind is the material used to make your baby’s garment. Stick to cotton, which is breathable, unless you are going to be in a cold environment that requires something a little warmer like cashmere wool. Make sure that the wool is high quality, or it might feel itchy. Of course, these are just a few options, as there are other materials that might be a good fit.

A Sense of Style

The last thing that you want to pay attention to is the style of the garment. There are two basic choices, which are modern or traditional. Traditional means a white gown for a girl or a white tuxedo outfit for a boy. This outfit can be as elaborate as you want it to be.

Modern gives you a little more room to play with. For instance, you can choose different colors instead of sticking to white. It also gives you a chance to try different styles like using a vintage suit for your boy instead of a tuxedo. You can also switch the roles up and give your daughter a suit with a feminine touch to be a little hip.

These are just some ideas, but hopefully they help you pick the best christening attire possible.
