Deep sea fishing can be a great time if you love to get outdoors and experience the ocean with friends or family. With that being said, you can even go by yourself deep sea fishing as long as you have a guide.
Most deep sea fishing trips for novices have expert guides who organize them. You can turn your trip into anything you want. For example, you might decide to go out twice every day for a week or just once over a weekend.
But what should you bring on your deep sea fishing trip? It can be difficult to know if you’ve never been out before. Here are some great ideas.
1. A camera
First and foremost, bring your camera! This is a fishing trip, and it should be a fun experience for you and your family or friends. Most people have cameras on their smart phones and tablets these days, but it wouldn’t hurt to pick up a camera that is able to shoot more complicated shots because you’ll have plenty of opportunities.
2. Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
It can get pretty hot and bright out in the middle of the sea, so make sure you’re prepared with a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses that protect against harmful UV rays. You’ll want to put this stuff on even when it’s slightly overcast because you can still get sun damage in this way. Fortunately, it shouldn’t get too hot because you’ll have some shade from the boat as well as a good breeze off the water.
3. Fishing gear
Most of the time, the deep sea fishing operation will have everything you’ll need to go fishing. You won’t need to have poles, bait or bobbers. But in some cases, there may be special gear you want to bring, or your guide may ask that you find your own bait. Again, this all depends on who you are heading out on the water with, so make sure and look all of this up before you set out!
4. Lunch or some sort of snack and drink
You’ll be out on the high seas for a long time, so make sure you have something to munch on while you’re there. Some trips will provide lunch, drinks and snacks. You’ll want to check the website of your deep sea fishing company to see exactly what they will provide.
5. Something to bring your catch home with
Most deep sea fishing tours will provide you with the service of cleaning your fish. This service fee is usually included in the price of the trip. But once you have your cleaned fish, what are you going to do with it? You’ll want to bring a cooler with you to put the fish in.
